Our text is mainstream, 40% of the country listens and buy mainstream music. This tells us that our genre is well received by the audience. This is shown by the Top 40 singles being mostly mainstream pop music, with 5/10 of the top 10 singles being pop. Including: Maroon 5, One Direction and Olly Murs.
Pop is clearly the dominant genre in modern day music. However, there is clearly a lot of competition by other genre's such as Hip Hop and R'n'B which take up the other half of this week's Top 10, artists such as Dappy and Jason Derulo are pop's biggest competition.
