Research : Our Sub-Genre of Music Video .

The music genre that we intend to follow for our music artist is pop. Pop usually follows the same conventions and ideologies throughout most artists videos. Here are some examples:

This video follows several typical conventions of pop music videos. It's shot in a studio, with several different brightly coloured background to create the bright fun image which is often associated with pop music. The mise-en-scene also follows the generic pop conventions. As Jessie J is female, she is wearing minimal clothes which portray her own unique style. So she is creating the image of sex appeal as well as presenting her style to the audience. Also, it also uses numerous different shot sizes, including the close up of the artist, often used to present and associate the artist with the audience watching. The props used also associate with the genre, for example, the big teddy bear presents youth and fun, which pop also represents. However, it's torn look is due to the narrative within the video. Pop video's often also contain narratives.

Avril Lavigne also follows the pop genre, however she has a completely different image to Jessie J. Jessie J has a slightly hip hop edge, who's main audience would be those who like hip hop. However, he bright image and the beats of her songs it means she's more pop. She also has a more 'sexy' image than Avril Lavigne. Avril is also pop, but has added a pop/punk edge to her image. This is shown by the mise-en-scene she has chosen to use. The set in which the performance aspect of the video has pink and black skull and cross bones, this image is often shown by the punk genre. Also, her costume also presents a pop/punk image. She has a black wig often associated with the emo stereotype. This would be the main audience for her music. The video also follows a narrative, as well as performance shots. The cross between both is often used within pop videos. The video also contains a dance sequence, as do many videos in the pop genre. In our video we will use a dance sequence to follow the genre. However, this does not follow a typical iconography, like Goodwin suggests. In this video the narrative shows the bully getting the guy, this is an alternative iconography, typically good beats evil.

Miley Cyrus: again follows typical conventions of music videos, using all the appropriate shot sizes which pop videos usually use. The close up to associate with the artist. The long shot to set the scene of what's happening in the narrative, and the medium shot to show the style in which the artist is presenting. As Miley started with a child based audience, her image represents fun and youth, this is shown in the theme of youth's having fun with parties and love etc. Like Goodwin said, their is a relationship between the lyrics and the visuals as the song is called 'Part in the USA' the visuals portray this by scenes of parties and clips of the American flag.

Britney is also follows all the standard conventions of the pop genre. With many different settings/scenes in which the narrative is being portrayed, the bright colours to represent the happiness of her image and the choice of costumes and props to represent her 'sexy' image. The shot sizes also follow the typical conventions, close ups, medium and long shots are used to associate with the audience, set the scene for the narrative and represent her brand image. Voyeurism is also used within this video, as her image is being scantily clad, there are several close up shots of Britney representing the male gaze, following Goodwin's convention of the music video.
